Just because a belief is useful to you, doesn't make it true.

"I need to believe in God because otherwise life feels meaningless."

"I believe in heaven and hell because it gives me motivation to be good."

I don't want to muck other people's water for what they find comforting but the problem arises when they suggest it to me. I will not believe in something just because it's comfortable.

Humans have lived through poverty, slavery, war, genocide, etc. hoping for something good to come, and in the vast majority of cases, it never did.

Just because a belief about the afterlife or God is psychologically useful, it isn't enough for me to subscribe to it.

Very true. It goes both ways. Just because one doesnt like what God says/does, doesnt mean it isnt true "I cant believe in a god that sends people to hell" People should definitely decide on a belief system not because its good or bad for you but choose the one that has the most evidence for truth

Quite so. I am not bothered about people being religious, and I understand many do find it personally comforting; but I do object to them assuming everyone else has to share their ideology, or using their faith to avoid personal responsibility.
We are all children of The Enlightenment. Which means that it’s our right to demand strong evidence before committing to any belief. I have no need for magical claims and superstition.
For me it’s the ones that say that you need to lean on god and turn to religion and then it would all make sense to me. That there is a reason. That he’d never give someone more than they can handle.. like don’t come around here with that. Not to me.

Indeed. What makes it so irritating to me, is when others preach it (anything) to others as if it's gospel.
One of my annoyances is telling people to 'live life to the fullest'. Pretentious BS. They should just live their own life.
