Question about Jesus

Would Jesus still be revered and worshipped as he is today if Mary hadn’t been a virgin and he wasn't conceived through immaculate conception?

Interesting question. I'm not sure that those two beliefs are a very big deal outside of Roman Catholicism. Or are they?? 🤔

@sarabee1995 I have no idea

@sarabee1995 I think that all Christianity believes in Jesus's immaculate conception but I know other Christians that believe that Jesus had siblings through Joseph and Mary.

@JimboSaturn Yes, I'm aware of the varying beliefs regarding Mary's status as a virgin until Jesus' birth versus all her life. But, I don't think this is a cornerstone of the faith for non-Catholics. We in the Catholic Church make a much bigger deal of this whereas non-Catholics seem (to me) to just kinda shrug over it.

In other words, if we could somehow find proof or verification regarding Mary's virginity after Jesus' birth, Catholics would be all over this either screaming BLASPHEMY or saying "I told you so" whereas the protestants that I know would just shrug and not feel strongly either way about it.

@sarabee1995 Agreed I was raised Catholic, the virgin birth is an important part of Catholism. Catholism elevates Mary to a special status as well.

@JimboSaturn Yes, it does. I still attend Mass, but I'm less and less comfortable with the status Catholics give to Mary.

@sarabee1995 Ya I can understand why the Protestants don't like Mary's status. She is really just replacing Roman pagan deities. The same with all that saint stuff. In fact I used to only pray to God not Jesus or Mary although I used to say the rosary, but that was more like a meditation. I'm not religious now.

@JimboSaturn Yup, special status for certain dead people over all the other dead people is very contrary to scripture, especially if we are praying to them and not to God.

@sarabee1995 I hear some study that said something like 75% of Italians pray to Mary or a saint rather than God. I don't have the details correct I'm sure but it was alarming whatever they were. I was also a very Protestant style Catholic. Much more paired back style of Christian.

@JimboSaturn Same here. I do like the tradition and "style" of the Catholic Mass, but my faith is very Protestant in style.
