Good post, sister. I'm living proof that tongues are for today. I once freaked out a nurse that was working on me at the hospital. I also have the gift of helps.
@GodSpeed63 Yes! Praise God! They are for today. What is the gift of "helps"? I'm never heard of that.

I have a gift for helping others whenever I can. My wife has that same gift.
@GodSpeed63
Amen, so do I. That's one of the gifts I have and another is encouragement and teaching.

I have one question not for argument but just to understand. I don't think it's a lengthy answer.
If you were in a group to worship and one suddenly spoke in tongues how would you know if it was the gift at work or them initiating it. My understanding is a person who actually speaks in tongues doesn't recall it or know what they said.

@LadyGrace I'm just not one to preach or try to influence. Some say that's not the way. If it isn't then I'll pay but twice with witnesses I have said and asked all that is written need be done to be saved.
@Gibbon Oh, dear heart, we all are given different gifts by the spirit. There are many many ways to witness for the Lord and that is even by example. The Lord understands. I think you did a great job by those few words you said. That's witnessing. I'm real proud of you.
@Gibbon if you don't mind I would just like to say one thing when you said, I'm just not one to preach or try to influence. Some say that's not the way.

I'm not talking about you here. I'm just talking about the ones that feel led to witness by preaching like some do, okay? Some might say that's not the way but I just wanted to point out that yes we all have different gifts as I mentioned, but Jesus told his disciples to go out and spread the gospel after he resurrected and went to heaven. He told them to go out and tell the world about him since he wouldn't be here on Earth anymore and that's what I do. That's what God has called me to do. If not, I couldn't do what I do here. Not without God's calling. Not everyone has been called to do that. Some have other gifts of witnessing, that I don't have.

Very nicely explained. Thank you for taking time to explain it to us. But I still have two questions.

1) What are various gifts given by The Holy Spirit? Can a person have more than one gift?
You may write a different post about it if you want to explain in detail.

2) Many people say that in order to be saved, you must speak in tongue. Atleast, I have heard many of them saying so. Is it slightly true?

Thank you again and Good Morning
@DanielsASJ Thanks for your questions. I mentioned the gifts of the Holy Spirit in my post.

To your second question about is it necessary to speak in tongues in order to be saved, no it is not a necessary condition for salvation, nor a requirement.

Salvation is based on faith in Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in one's heart, not on outward manifestations like speaking in tongues.

Salvation is a gift from God, not something earned through performance or outward signs. The Holy Spirit is a powerful force in the lives of believers.

A person will have as many gifts or maybe even just one, according to as the Holy Spirit chooses.

I remember going to church way back when I was a teen. although this is before I gave my life to Christ. I was just going to church to hangout and nothing else. I was weirded out during worship Sundays when some people inside the church speaking in tongues. Even now days, I still never understood them. I just leave it as that.
@FreestyleArt well it's okay to speak in tongues as long as the Lord leads but yes I understand what you mean. It does freak people out sometimes. Thanks for your testimony. That was cute.

Well, I have only had one experience with so-called "speaking in tongues", and I can tell you that when someone starts pretending they are "speaking in tongues" and they are saying gobbledy- gook words that don't exist in any language, anywhere, it's NOT true speaking in tongues. Instead, it is a scream for attention. AND it's nuts.

Speaking in tongues, to MY understanding, is instant knowledge of a legitimate foreign tongue so that communication with foreigners is instantly possible. I understand that this blessing of the holy spirit was typically given to the apostles, when they went out to preach the words of Jesus Christ.

But the "tongues" were ALWAYS a recognizable foreign language with which the speaker had NO prior knowledge or schooling.
@4meAndyou

It is the order of the church that tongues must be done according to certain standards, as follows:

1 Cor. 14: verses 5-13, and 27-30 says: If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

It's a diversified subject for sure. I have visited many churches and my home church was never one where they spoke in tongues. It was only later that I heard tongues being spoken in the Pentecost Church or Assemblies of God. I personally don't feel it necessary in a service, but for those who have that gift, I feel they are blessed to have that gift. I have nothing to say against it, since it is biblical and God-given, so I cannot discount it, but prefer myself, to be in a service where I can understand every word said.

@LadyGrace I agree with the "let him keep silence" part. I once attended a ladies diet group meeting, (because she was a friend of an old friend of my husband), and all the ladies there were charismatic Christians...and when THAT nutty nonsense started up during the normal opening prayer, I was like...WOOOOO. I never went back to that group.
@4meAndyou I don't blame you haha!

Never done it.🤔I saw someone have a stroke at the mic that was kinda weird.
@Lostpoet Wow. I have never spoken in tongues either. I would love to, but the Lord has not given me that individual gift. Some have it and some do not. The Holy Spirit disperses the gifts of the Spirit as he sees fit. I did speak in tongues just one time and that was in a dream, and wow that was so amazing, I could not believe it. It woke me up and I could actually feel the Holy Spirit take control of my tongue as I was speaking in tongues as I woke up. I don't know what language it was but it sounded something like Hebrew. The Bible says that when we don't know how or what to pray, the Holy Spirit does pray for us and that's probably what it was. But how I would love to do that again. What caused it was I was praying for my daughter in a dream and all the sudden I started speaking in tongues and that was the Holy Spirit speaking through me in that dream, on behalf of my daughter. But I've never been able to do it again. And that's okay, but I would sure love to again but that's up to God. Everyone has their own special gifts. It doesn't mean any are any more important than the other.

Good evening. Gifts are just that. Gifts from God. He doesn't give the gift of tongues to everyone. Only those He chooses. Tongues can not be learned or taught. And as you said if there is no one to interpret them let him be silent. 1 Cor 14, 27-28.
BuzzedLightyear · 61-69
Goodness, you're going deep.
@BuzzedLightyear Yes sir. Bible study 🤭
Locke ·
Too long to read.
@Locke There's some on here that write four or five times what I do. Waaaay longer. 😂 And most will read a whole newspaper and not complain about it. But it seems that when it comes to reading God's word, people get tired real quick and don't want to read it. I feel if people really love the Lord and want to understand him and grow in him, they won't mind reading about him, even if it's a little long. That's why I mentioned it is a Bible study.
BuzzedLightyear · 61-69
1 Corinthians 14:18 thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
@BuzzedLightyear yes but he wasn't bragging there, though it might seem like it. And then he goes on to say but I would rather speak in love, than a thousand times more than in tongues. And that goes for you too, he told them.
BuzzedLightyear · 61-69
@LadyGrace i didn't mean it that way

Btw...the Word of God is alive and full of power
@BuzzedLightyear Absolutely! We have no idea how great God's power is, really. I mean it would just blow our minds if we really knew.
