You see constant stories in the US about shootings

And in the comments, people take the phrase, "thoughts and prayers", and they make a mockery of that phrase. Such as to basically say something like, that phrase belongs to the Republicans for example, or that phrase belongs to a certain group of people.

I don't know, but for me, if you have a loved one I don't care who it is, mother, father, brother, sister etc, if you have a loved one in the hospital, who might be dying, who might have cancer, or whatever the case may be, for me I will pray every day regardless of that fact because that's what I believe in.

Yes, there are people who use that phrase because what else are they supposed to say, oh I'm not going to pray for them because whatever it doesn't do anything. I don't know but that's what I believe in and those people making a mockery, can go fly a kite.

I think people get upset about it because they want something done to stop shootings from happening, so they view thoughts and prayers as a useless thing for that. It might help those who are grieving but it doesn't do anything to keep people from dying from shootings in the first place. Prayers are still helpful during difficult times.

@midnightrose YES!!! That's what I was trying to remember!!! That a "thoughts and prayers" phrase doesn't bring back loved ones, which I say to those people, yes we know this. At the same time, to sit there and make a mockery of the phrase, does no good for the people who are grieving.

But no one said thoughts and prayers is supposed to physically do something either. If these people truly want change, they got to start voting in people who have the same sentiments as them, OR, they themselves can start running for public office, and then implement changes when they get elected to a higher public role.

Here's a thought I had about the 2nd amendment a few months ago. My initial thought about it was that, the 2nd amendment was drawn up that had to do with coinciding with the civil war. But then I realized that thought is wrong because the civil war wasn't until 1861, and the 2nd amendment was drawn up in the late 1700's.

I went to Google and found this:

Many historians agree that the primary reason for passing the Second Amendment was to prevent the need for the United States to have a professional standing army. At the time it was passed, it seems it was not intended to grant a right for private individuals to keep weapons for self-defense.

I thought I did read somewhere however something about the 2nd amendment being modified or whatever to assist with the civil war. But just forget all of that for a moment.... The only one real solution to getting rid of gun violence, is getting rid of guns. Touchy subject, I know, and an impossibility, which is sad.

I've always imagined the world becoming like Star Trek. No poverty, people aren't tied to material things, the need for possessions is no more, there's no money. The challenge in life, is to enrich yourself, and enjoy life. The Star Trek universe will unfortunately remain a dream that will never ever happen. There's just no way you can get people to give up worldly possessions, and no money? What a dream. Won't ever happen. Because there are a lot of sick, twisted and evil people in this world who want to see others suffer, while they bring in trillions and trillions of dollars into their pockets.
@twiigss I've never been a Trekky so I didn't know that about the Star Trek universe. It almost makes me want to watch it. It would certainly get rid of a lot of problems if we didn't have those worries.

@midnightrose I would start with Star Trek the next generation.

You could watch an episode or two of the original series (that's the star Trek with William shatner) it would give you an Idea of who those original characters are, but I grew up with next generation.

Phrases belong to no one

And I'm sure if you were in the same situation, you would want people to pray for you. At least I know I would.

pretty sure some people who said that, meant it.
Facebook is the worst! Everyone there acts like they are prayer warriors but I know most are not. Oh and they put everyone that dies in heaven and that’s simply not the case either!
