Women To Remain Silent?

“As in all the churches, the women are not permitted to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law also says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.” 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 What part of this do you not understand? Just curious.

Why have you missed out ‘of the saints’ from the first phrase of the first sentence.

Also where did you get those commas from? New Testament Greek does not have some.

On a personal note, I’m glad you read the Bible. But try to read it as a whole, instead of a couple of sentences. Within twenty years of Jesus death women acted as leaders in certain church groups: prophets, teachers and evangelists. Paul recognises their work as deacons and fellow workers, and even greets one, as an outstanding apostle.

You will see this when you get to Romans 16.7,
16.1-2, 16.6,16.12. Philippians 4:2-3. Col4.15
Acts 2.25,21.9.

In Christ there is neither male nor female.

@SW-User Tell that to practically every religion in the US. Women are subservient and second class.

@JSul3 that’s not how Jesus treated them, Mary, Martha, the Samarian woman at the well, woman who touched his robe. He was accessible to all and still is.

Don’t know much about American take on Christianity , I’m in the UK.

@SW-User Good for you. Many Evangelicals here love Trump.

Robert Jeffress, Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Falwell jr., Franklin Graham.

From NY Magazine:
Loyalty to Trump was evident in interviews with more than a dozen Iowa pastors in the wake of Trump’s indictment. Each cited Trump’s role in helping overturn Roe vs. Wade as central to the long-term rethinking about him since his first campaign. Several also pointed to Trump’s recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

“I appreciate the fact that, for what seems like the first time in my lifetime, someone did what they said they were going to do,” said the Rev. Kerry Jech of Marshalltown. “With Donald Trump, what he promised us, he delivered on. That’s one thing I can’t get away from.”

Rational assessments of Trump’s record aside, there is a more disturbing phenomenon going on among conservative Evangelicals: a Christian nationalist movement in which Trump can only be described as an irreplaceable figure whose political success is crucial to God’s plan for redeeming a sinful world. This notion was made most clearly evident in the ReAwaken America tour series of politico-religious events highlighted by Trump-pardoned scoundrels Michael Flynn and Roger Stone that flowed out of the January 6 pro-Trump insurrection, as PBS explained last year:

ReAwaken America was launched by Flynn, a former White House national security adviser, and Oklahoma entrepreneur Clay Clark a few months after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol failed to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Attendees and speakers still insist — against all evidence and dozens of court rulings — that Donald Trump rightfully won.
Since early last year, the ReAwaken America Tour has carried its message of a country under siege to tens of thousands of people in 15 cities and towns. The tour serves as a traveling roadshow and recruiting tool for an ascendant Christian nationalist movement that’s wrapped itself in God, patriotism and politics and has grown in power and influence inside the Republican Party.

The desire to turn the USA into a White Christian Authoritarian Fascist Nation is on full display. Take note of those who support Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
@JSul3 You're just WRONG. You must be one of those men who are abusive to their wife or girlfriend. Totally narcissistic.

@LadyGrace LOL! You had best read my comment again.

I am a full supporter of women's rights!
I abhor idiots like Copeland, Jeffress, etc.
@JSul3 That ruling was just made, and I didn't see it, but the Poster was misinterpreting women's role as a wife. THAT'S what I was addressing.

Yes, there are women that do preach, but I did not say I am for it. Reading through Scripture, a few passages stand out that directly speak to the role of women in the church. These passages are the foundation for the conclusion that women cannot be lead pastors in churches. I agree with you on that.
