The devil AKA Satan.

Do you believe in the devil?

Many fundamentalist Christians would obviously say "yes" with the sage and knowing comment that the greatest trick of the devil is to convince us that he doesn't exist.

Myself, I think his greatest trick is to convince us that he he does.....which doesn't really make sense I know, but is rather funny when you think about it.

The Dharma, Buddhism, does have its own version of the "lord of darkness", Mara. Mara often acts as someone who would seek to convince us that "enlightenment/salvation" can never be ours.

Once, on a Buddhist forum, another poster spoke of his own outlook. He only believed in bodhisattvas, surrounding us, "enlightenment beings" who have renounced the joys of nirvana in order to share our sufferings, making them their own, aiding and supporting. Angels in a sense I suppose. I saw his outlook as life giving. I still do.

I don't think we need believe in fairies to reap the benefits. A "bodhisattva" can be in the smile of a child, an act of a stranger. Tangible. Real. Lifegiving.

No poll here I'm not interested in any vote. Truth is not democratic.

You don't have to be a ""fundamentalist'' Christian to believe satan exists.. You just have to be a standard Christian.. Using the term "fundamentalist" is simply a form of denigration.. Making out that people who believe satan exists are bad people.. Once you read that first sentence you know what agenda Tariki is pushing..

Yes truth is not democratic.. satan is real just as God is real and in the end satan will be cast into the eternal lake of fire along with all who have joined him is his rebellion against God..

@Adstar According to the story, everyone will end up cursing the God character. People will get very upset about those hundred pound hailstones hitting them on their heads.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes Yes the same book the book of Revelation states that these same people supported the evil leader called the beast who will cause followers of god to be beheaded for not worshiping him as god on earth.. These people who will face those end times terrors will have taken part in great wars and atrocities.. Yes they will curse God as the wrath of God is enacted upon them and the curses will mean nothing and will have no effect on God.. These same people will wish for death to escape the wrath of God but a miracle will happen.. They will be unable to die..

Revelation 9:
6 "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them."
@Adstar Thanks for your input. In fact many progressive Christians have dispensed with the idea of Satan as some sort of objective figure of evil. Which is why I spoke of "fundamentalists" to distinguish the two. It is not denigration.

But thank you for your OPINION that Satan is "real" and that all who disagree with you are bound for the lake of fire.
@Diotrephes Yes, that is one of the fine stories of the Sky God from the OT, the throwing of hailstones down upon his enemies, thus killing more than the actual armies of Israel managed as the Good Book tells us. Good stuff for the Sunday schools.

😀
@Adstar The bit where Jesus rides across the sky waging war upon a white horse. Is it lightning bolts or hailstones?

This sort of nonsense should really be dispensed with by any who seek the true God.

@Tariki
many progressive Christians have dispensed with the idea of Satan as some sort of objective figure of evil.
There not Christians anymore if they don't believe in satan.. So i could not care less what they proclaim about satan..
Which is why I spoke of "fundamentalists" to distinguish the two. It is not denigration.
The word [c=7700B2]progressive[/c] supposes that the person is more advanced more evolved better then the other.. You use such words as both a form of endorsement and support and as a term of denigration.. It is so clear makes me wonder why you are even trying to deny it..

Oh right you must think the people reading your comments are absolute morons, wish coincidentally is another form of insult..
@Adstar The bit where Jesus rides across the sky waging war upon a white horse. Is it lightning bolts or hailstones?
Just goes to show how ignorant you are of the scripture you pompously report to be an expert in.. The return of Jesus in the sky will be associated with lightning on a darkened day.. He will come down to earth and wipe out the army of the beast on the plains of Meggedo in Israel with madness that will cause the soldiers in the army to turn there weapons on their fellow troops and at the same time their flesh will start to melt away and liquefy.. That's why Jesus will end up on that horse with blood upon his clothes, The blood will be that deep..
This sort of nonsense should really be dispensed with by any who seek the true God.
On the contrary,, those who seek God accept His Word and do not pompously rely on their own opinion of what God should do or what God should say.. People like you are your own god, you use your ecumenicism to use the worlds religions as a smorgasbord accepting things the conform to your idea of what is good and rejecting things that don't seem nice to you.. You religion is filled with vain human philosophy.. But in the end the The Word of God will be seen to be true no matter how much unwise people like you hate it..

@Adstar The God character comes across as the evil one in the story. He tortures and abuses humanity for his own vanity while Satan fights against him in an effort to save humanity and prevent the world from being destroyed.

I would eagerly jump into the lake of fire to be consumed in a flash rather than spend eternity in such a psycho's golden prison where I would lose my humanity for eternity.

@Tariki I was thinking about scene in Revelation 16:21 (CEV) =
"Hailstones, weighing about a hundred pounds each, fell from the sky on people. Finally, the people cursed God, because the hail was so terrible."

That is about two cubic feet of ice. Chances are not much would be left.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes Well that's your judgement.. A false judgement but you can own it as you stand before God on the day of judgement..

No one who is going to be cast into the lake of fire will be consumed in a flash.. They will spend eternity in that lake of fire in severe torment continuously burning but never being consumed and never dying..
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Adstar That's not what the fairy tale really says. It says that the devil, the beast, and the false prophet will be tormented day and night forever.

If your name isn't written in the Book of Life you will be tossed in to the lake of fire, which is the second death. It doesn't say that you will be tortured forever. Eternal torture is an Islamic belief.

@Diotrephes Don't you know that the false prophet is a Man, Don't you know that the beast is a Man?

Yeah i know there are those in religous cults that say God is not going to cause people to suffer forever and ever in the Lake of fire.. They really do a good job at decieving people who want to believe their lies.. But they get stumped when i reveal to them that that verse actually confirms that human beings are going to be cast into the lake of fire where they will suffer torment for ever and ever..

And to get you a bit more informed the actual scripture states that the devil will be cast into the lake of fire 1000 years after the beast and the false prophet are cast into it..

First the beast and the false prophet getting cast into the lake of fire..

Revelation 19
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. [c=7700B2]These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone[/c].

Now 1000 years later satan gets the same outcome.. Note what it says about the beast and the False prophet .. They are still in the lake of fire they have been there for 1000 years and have not been burn't up..

Revelation 20:
7 And [c=7700B2]when the thousand years are expired, Satan[/c] shall be loosed out of his prison, {8} And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. {9} And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. {10} [c=7700B2]And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are[/c], and shall be t[c=7700B2]ormented day and night for ever and ever[/c]."

@Adstar Frankly, I don't believe in ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern religious fairy tales. I consider them to be irrelevant, although there are some useful tidbits of practical advice in the more secular books. I do give the committee credit for writing a good novel.

@Diotrephes
@Adstar Frankly, I don't believe in ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern religious fairy tales. I consider them to be irrelevant,
You are quite free to hold such narrow minded and bigoted views.. But as we all know decisions have consequences..
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Adstar Do you believe in the Aztec and ancient Egyptian Gods? Why don't you believe in the Asian Indian, Chinese or Celtic deities?
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes Because i know the God of Abraham is real and His revealed will is trustworthy.. He says He is the Only God and i believe Him.. I trust Him..

(Isaiah 44:6) "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God."
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Adstar Thanks for the daily joke.

You believe in some old despicable character who had an alias and who some unknown character wrote a fairy tale about him and gave him some dialogue about his imaginary deity.

The crazy old coot Abraham was one of the most despicable major characters in the biblical fairy tale.

How you would like to go visit the Sombrero Galaxy with me in my spaceship next week? It only takes an hour travel time.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes Yeah there is no more profit in speaking to you. You have clearly revealed your toxic spirit to me.. Hope you have a great life with all the best blessings you can enjoy. Because Life is short and eternity is forever..
@Adstar Oh, how pious and self-righteous!

😀
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Tariki Nothing Pious and self-rightous about it.. You walk with people as long as they are prepared to walk with you they slap your face and you turn your cheek and they slap you again.. After that you move on and leave their toxic spirit behind.. I am not called upon to be someones punching bag for life..
@Adstar No, you don't see it do you? Some things need spiritual discernment and are not susceptible to the eyes of the "natural man".

"How many times do I forgive my brother" as the Lord was asked. Look it up.

You take your lead from your own understanding of God, one who eventually turns His face from those who do not agree with Him.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Tariki 7 x 70 times I don't need to look it up.. I know how perfect The LORD Jesus is.. And being lectured to by one who does not even believe the Word of God is ironic..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Tariki At any rate did i say i would not forgive them??? Nope i cut the interaction to stop the abuse.. I have given her over the The LORD if they seeks His forgivness then i will be a very happy man in eternity. If not then i know God shall avenge me..
@Adstar Ah ha! We have a Jesuit in the camp!

I believe in the Living Word

Thank you.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Tariki I left the catholic religion when i read the Bible and converted to Christianity.. call me a jesuit again shows your total lack of wisdom and perception..

You pompusly believe in yourself and only believe parts of the Word of God when it conforms to your standards.. You have ZERO Faith in the Word of God..
