AI art is soulless "beauty"; real art is beautiful in part because of the amount of work that went into it

Even if you don't personally like a work of art, you can at least acknowledge that the artist put effort into it, put some part of themselves into it. It isn't just a matter of whatever aesthetic appeal it may have. It's about the labor that went into it, and the person behind it. AI art may appear aesthetically pleasing, but somehow the fact that there's no humanity behind it always shows through.

If you could produce the perfect piece of art with no real labor, you would do that. AI art isn't superior because it's satisficing. It's competent, but not great. Tthe details aren't loved the way an artist loves them. It's just there to render your big picture intelligible. You can dispute that by imagining an artist attending to the smallest detail of a piece of AI art, but by that point it's legitimately art, just done with the capacities of AI. And that's labor intensive, so there's no real reason to do that other than to say you've done it. Which means, I suppose, that some AI art out there is probably art, but I have yet to see it.
