Is it just me or is "almost every woman you meet trying to claim they have 'thick thighs' as a trend?"

TL;DR If the rest is too long, what I mean is EVERY woman I meet, regardless of how skinny or chubby is claiming to have "thick thighs," even if their thighs are super skinny and not thick at all. It seems like some sort of trend, and I'm wondering where it came from...

I've noticed this, and I found it kind of funny and ridiculous...on one hand it's good to normalize a greater variety of body types rather than just glorifying super skinny supermodel body types; but on the other hand I think it's kind of silly to claim your body is one thing when it's clearly another. Like a person with a small nose claiming to have a big nose, or vice versa. Or a person with brown eyes claiming to have green eyes, or vice versa. You get the point.

Basically EVERY woman I know is claiming to have "thigh thighs," even if they're super skinny and clearly do NOT have "thick" thighs. Like I'm talking women who are only like 100 pounds maximum or below with obviously very skinny arms and legs claiming they have thick thighs.

This is not to shame skinny women who have thin thighs or anything like that, but it's kind of silly to claim you have thick thighs when they clearly aren't thick at all.

Vice versa it'd be just as ridiculous too...aka women with clearly very big and full thighs claiming that their thighs are "too small" or "very thin."

I'm just sort of wondering WHERE and WHY this "trend" started...

It's not a trend. Women constantly feel the need to comment on their bodies because someone is always looking at us. Some are so fkd up by this they will put themselves down just to hear some feedback. Validation.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@AlchemyFox I never talked ill about my looks to get validation. It's body dysmorphia and the problem is that the person doesn't like how they look for themselves, not somebody else. Therefore it doesn't matter how much someone else will persuade you how good you look, their opinion doesn't matter to you because you're fixated on some specific appearance. The main problem here is excessive self-centeredness and unhealthy fixation on one's appearance.
@AlchemyFox Ah...that makes perfect sense, actually. It really just comes to show how fucked up society itself is. Beauty standards themselves are just poison. All it does is make the feel people who DO fit the beauty standards feel good, while making all the other people who DON'T fit into it feel bad...women definitely have it worse in this regard, though men do sometimes face this as well, though on a lesser level. Like with height or penis size, primarily. And man boobs are usually seen as unattractive too. But that's kind of as far as it goes.
@CrazyMusicLover Ah yes...people are often their own worst critic. People are often obsessed with stuff about themselves that the vast majority of people probably don't even notice. When someone is THAT insecure and self-centered then nothing anyone else says to them will get rid of their insecurity. Only they themselves can get rid of it, from within. Therapy and meds probably help, though that's not the only thing, obviously.

You need the image of reference. My thighs are thick in compare to an average Chinese but probably normal size in compare to a body builder or some of those Latin American or African beauty standards. So if they claim they have thick thighs and don't, they use the super skinny models as the image of reference.

Or another option is they talk about it in relation to the rest of their body. They might have tiny upper body but strong base. I am like that, therefore I say I have thick legs and big butt but they are not thick in comparison to some other women with other types of bodies.
@CrazyMusicLover Ah...that makes perfect sense, actually. So it's all about the image of reference, and in relation to the rest of their body. Proportions, basically. Not the thickness of the thighs themselves, just the proportion.

I think an easy example of this is breast size compared to when a woman gains weight and loses weight. Technically fat women's breasts are "bigger" by size alone, but I've seen some women where their breasts definitely look bigger AFTER they lost weight rather than before it. Or the other way around too: their breasts look smaller AFTER they gained weight rather than before it.

And the reason for it is proportions and how the woman herself carries the weight. It's different for everyone obviously, but I've definitely seen A LOT of cases where a woman's breasts look bigger when she's skinny compared to when she's fat.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@RandomPersonThings Yup, it's a good example. Also an A cup on someone with a wide chest might seem too small but it's aesthetically proportional for someone with a petite figure.

5-10 years ago thigh gap was a thing

and 15 years ago it was nerd thighs (don't ask if you don't know)
saintsong · 41-45, F
@Pretzel Please don't open up that can of worms lol!
@Pretzel Ah yes...thigh gap...beauty standards are always changing, huh?

And believe me, I've been on the internet a LONG time...I looked it up, and...I don't really regret it, I've seen worse shit out there, haha.

I don't think I've ever come across anything TRULY disturbing on the internet...definitely no child porn or anything like that, and THANK GOD for that. And I've even been on 4chan which is infamous for having child porn sometimes.

I've DEFINITELY seen blood and gore, as well as just disturbing/creepy stuff in general...but thankfully nothing TRULY bad like child porn. For the blood and gore, I assume some were real, some were fake...if it was reported on the news it was most likely a real murder case, if it had no other evidence it was probably just a hoax video with really good editing and special effects.

I once told a woman she wasnt thicc.. after she said she was, because she was a perfect 120lbs and just really well proportioned for her body type, she flipped out called me every kind of name and blocked me.. we were even friends for like a year before that. I will never comment in any way, positive or negative on a womans body again.. other than to use generic terms like you look good, or great or i love your this or that, but never ever be descriptive in what i think.
@soulshadow Wow...that sounds rather extreme on her end...sounds like she either had some serious mental health issues or was just extremely insecure or just really stupid, or all of the above...lol.

But yeah...in general it's not too great to comment on one's appearance, positive or negative. Generic terms is the way to go. If you WERE to comment anyway, it's "safe" to comment on external things they can control, such as: clothing, if they changed their hairstyle, if they're wearing unique earrings, etc...but any comments on their body are off limits, as well as any comments on their facial features. For hair you also shouldn't comment unless they JUST changed their hairstyle recently or got a noticeable haircut recently as well.

Even for me myself...a comment on my t-shirt or shoes would be a lot "safer," but a comment on my eyes or my smile or whatever would feel A LOT more personal...probably because the former things are things I can control, while the latter things aren't. The latter things would also be kind of creepy to hear if I wasn't already into the person.

Yeah it’s funny how nowadays all girls claim they have thick thighs lol; one way it’s sad as it’s the new social “mark” of sexiness and women feel pressurized to fit in
@G0ddess Ah yes...it's definitely sad as fuck. Beauty standards in general are just bullshit and just serve to make people who don't fit into it insecure. Having a beauty standard in general is pointless because people are diverse and different by nature and it's impossible for everyone to look the exact same. They technically could have a "beauty standard" that MORE people fit into...like a body type that's the most common or recurring across all cultures...an "average" body type instead of a "supermodel" body type I guess...but even then there would still be LOTS of people who don't fit into it.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@G0ddess I do have thick things but it's not my "mark" of sexiness nor trying to fit in with the girls, it's that I have no moderation whatsoever when it comes to devouring Tiramisu 🤤😪

Also leg muscles from cycling (or at least so I want to believe)
SteelHands · 61-69, M
Yeah i dunno. Some guys like it flabbery. Not me. I like a tight waist and some athletic yee haw!. Lol
@SteelHands Haha. You know what you like. For me personally, I don't really care that much. It could be because I've been lonely all my life and am still a virgin who hasn't even had my first kiss or even first hug or held hands; so I'm not in the position to be "picky"...but at the same time, I think there's beauty to be found in all sorts of different body types! As long as she's not DANGEROUSLY underweight or overweight...like as long as she's not risking her life because of her weight. Being underweight or overweight by itself is not necessarily that bad, though if it starts to REALLY impact your health, THEN it's bad.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
Work out and aim for a good paycheck. That's always a good thing to try. Good luck to you.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I wish I had thick thighs
@DearAmbellina2113 I do understand that...but at the same time you gotta accept yourself for who you are. Just like you gotta accept other people for who they are.

Some of us have thick thighs...others of us don't. No biggie. 🤷

The only way you could "get" thick thighs if you don't have them is either by gaining weight or gaining muscle. But even that only goes so far.
Media conditioning .
Ever since the printing press came out, women have been continuously informed how they should look.

We are yet to grow the fuxk out of it 🙄
@OogieBoogie Ah yes...it's all such bullshit, isn't it? Why should there even be a beauty standard? People are so diverse and different by nature, it's literally IMPOSSIBLE to get everyone to look the exact same. Even if the beauty standard was a more common "average" body type instead of a supermodel body type, there would still be LOTS and lots of people who just don't fit into that beauty standard.
@RandomPersonThings it is bullshit.
But we will always have some difficult "perfection" that is almost unattainable.
It's how the rich show they are rich .

When we were starving in the 1500's Renaissance art was full of full fleshy women .
When food became abundant in the 60's ...Twiggy thin was all the fad in magazines

Now we have reached such an extreme body type, that it's only obtainable if you can afford surgery ....elite...elite...elite

Until humans grow spiritually as a species - it'll never end .🙄
