Why was the fairness cream invented?

I mean what might have gone in human’s mind to invent such a thing that so much endorsed discrimination?

@bijouxbroussard Basically a cream advertised in ads to get a brighter skintone.

The ads specifically target people with a darker skin tone creating a mindset that you'll be hated for it. It happens in India lol and I see it happen time and time again in my life.

@Beatbox34 Ohhh…skin lightening cream. Those used to be popular here, too. In the U.S. it was fallout from Eurocentric beauty standards.

@bijouxbroussard Tbh people buying them are idiots.
@Beatbox34 Agreed. It’s a form of self-loathing, alas. 😞

@bijouxbroussard If people just understood that they're beautiful the way they are, the world would be so much different.

Tbh I see face creams for men. Why to impress the opposite gender? How long would a superficial thing last? Would he put the cream to keep her hooked or rather would he charm her with his wit and personality.

Idk I just feel this is a cash grab by the corporates who feed on the insecurity of people by creating it themselves.
@Beatbox34 It is definitely based upon insecurity about attractiveness, which affects both genders. It was particularly ironic the mention that the same industry where directors criticized some actors for endorsing those creams, yet still won’t cast darker complexioned actors for their projects.

@bijouxbroussard Exactly. It is irony. The saddest part is the woman who left the contract took a fat paycheck at the end of the day. They say they didn't want to endorse it but did it anyway.

@Beatbox34 I agree completely
