If given the chance, would you trade your internal skeleton for an exoskeleton?

Nope! Anything with an exoskeleton goes dormant in cold weather. Also they are slow moving because of no internal heating.

That would have limitations of it's own.
Size constraints would suck, despite being strong in comparison.
