Bottom of the 6th, 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd, score is tied at 3. The batter hits a line shot down the first base line and it lands in fair territory in right field. The runner on 3rd scores but there is a play at the plate, as the runner from second base is attempting to score. The throw from right field is off target, so the runner scores, however, the batter is going for second base but is gunned down by the catcher's throw to second, for the third and final out of the inning. What is the score as they head to the top of the seventh inning?

5 to three because the batter was safe at first . The runners scored before batter was called out at second

@Patriot96 Yes, some people think if the final out occurs, runs that happen prior do not count.

Depends on whether the runner from second touched home plate before or after the batter being tagged out at second. If before, 5-3, if after, 4-3. The tricky thing is, if the batter was thrown out before he reached FIRST, the score would be 3-3, I believe.

@biandlargeny Correct! I had to explain to my sister in law, that runs that occur prior to the third out, still count, even if it's on the same play.
