Which MLB Expansion (or "Replacement" Team If You Prefer) Has Won the Most World Series Titles?

RedBaron · M
Expansion teams and replacement teams are very different. One is legal and the other was ruled an unfair labor practice by the NLRB in 1995.

I am not talking about the the labor dispute of 1994-95.

I am asking which team that was "added" to one of the two major leagues that has won the most world series titles?

The National League had contracted to eight teams for 1900.

The American League is recognized as becoming a major league in 1901 with eight teams that year.

@beckyromero My only point is that a replacement team is a misnomer for an expansion team.

The American League and the Highlanders/Yankees (the answer you’re looking for) didn’t replace anything.

Actually they did. And that's the answer.

With the Baltimore Orioles franchise taken over by the American League, the franchise spot was shifted to New York and sold to new owners. If you count from 7 to 8, then it's an expansion franchise. If you count it as a franchise slot being replaced with new owners and new players, then it's a replacement franchise.

But since the official MLB historian, John Thorn, supports not counting the Yankees as a continuation of the Orioles and the Yankees don't count the Orioles as part of their history, they're the correct answer to the question.

Here's a recap of the separation:

Basically, the new owners were buying a franchise slot from the league.

It's not the same as a new owner taking control of an exisiting club from a previous owner. They bought a franchise slot from the league (which had shifted it to New York).

Nationals?

@Wizardry

Nope, but you're getting close geographically.

It's the Yankees.

See my response to @RedBaron below as to why it's the Yankees.
