Why is it called Softball

when the ball is as hard as a…Chupa Chup?

Because it's not quite as hard as the hard ball used in baseball. Baseball was as well called hardball.

It's the comparison due to the history of the game. Softball was intended for women who were objecting to that very issue.

Softball later became a game for kids. This I remember in the 1960s playing.

Women were considered too "soft" to play hardball when the game started. This started a whole different issue though.

See the movie "A league of their own" about women's baseball in the 1940s. It's a fairly accurate movie. They transitioned from softball to hardball in it.
