How long do you think before ChatGPT becomes a fully paid service?

If I wait too long to get in on the action will I be screwed?

No idea when it will become paid. But I think there are multiple services provider like ChatGPT. So, you will some free version even when ChatGPT becomes paid.

It is always better to learn new things early.
