I'm actually not surprised people are falling in love with AI and prefer it over human interaction.

Haven't we always leaned into fake? Haven't we always sought and promoted flawlessness?

In a society built on how things appear, why wouldn't people go for the most easy and appeasing option as opposed to a real human with flaws and struggles?

AI helps perpetuate avoidance, humans favorite pastime.

I believe that social media has opened people's minds to accepting AI interactions far more than what would have been acceptable without it. Think about how many interactions people have online that is with someone that is "fake". Since people are more than happy creating a fake version of themselves and even cloning themselves into multiple profiles and using fake pictures etc. what is the difference?

Some people will prefer to interact with AI because at least they know what it is. Whereas people trying to deceive others is far more sinister.

Not sure it's about avoidance.

Over the past years, we learned how to chat with customer support, except they're not human and there is no way to avoid them. People think they're talking to humans.

The technology will only get better and at some point, it may be difficult to tell if the robot, that looks human, helping you at the grocery store, is human or robotic.

Nearly 10% of US men and 6%+ of US women, 18+ owned sex dolls.

The technology is getting better.
It is flawed as well, users can get frustrated with it, partly due to its artificial benevolence. But we all realized while using ChatGPT how violent human exchanges have become, especially on line. To that extent, it is teaching us to be more humane.

well modern dating was going through all the apps trying to fish for the biggest fish you can find!
We always liked stories and so many people have crushes on fictional characters or like characters they made around someone in their head.

now combine the 2, you find the biggest fish as you can the best you want as they'll do whatever you want, and they can be whoever you want so they can be anything you want!
Oy vey, so I’m watching one of my mindless entertainment shows, My Strange Addiction. A woman’s been in a relationship with her AI boyfriend for over a year and gets a tattoo of his name on her ribs. 😩

@OlderSometimesWiser it's funny but simultaneously sad and unfortunately not new why people are relying on what isn't real.

I think people, at least in my culture, are so desperate for meaning in their life they are unable to handle any kind of rejection so they gravitate towards something that will never reject them
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@EBSVC Bingo... We can't accept truth but we can avoid, pretend and manipulate our way out of it.
EBSVC · 41-45, T
@ScreamingFox Exactly
I'll stick with the real thing. Flaws and all.

Two of many issues I see anymore are “instant gratification” and “obsession with perfection”. Unfortunately AI can satisfy both.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@SageWanderer Yup and fairly easily...
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
I'm not surprised either. They can groom their ideal mate.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@SpectralMourning It's not gonna end well...

@ScreamingFox Nope. Judgment Day likely isn't too far off.
I prefer the real thing warts and other ugly parts too
@ScreamingFox farts and sharts

Boy.. not me. Zero governance, no ethics, no privacy. As usual... something potentially good being used for unethical purposes.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@Livingwell Yup, something we should of thought of years ago
A therapist can’t even be emotionally intelligent like ChatGPT
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@TurtlePink I'll admit I've appreciated certain AI generated responses when asking about mental health things. There's an appeal to it for sure, but no rules to handle it ethically which really bothers me
