Midlife crisis

I'm old enough. That's true. I've run my last long distance run. I'm not sad but I lack something for sure. Perhaps there's someone in my past that was the one that got away. I think a lot. I've gone to collect records again too. Is this my midlife crisis? I've been neglecting myself. Not keeping up appearances. I look like someone's gran these days. How I hate that. They get younger each year, those grandparents. How come that I can only connect to those that are out of reach? Is it my curse? I can't help that I think a lot. Once I fooled around in the hay like there was no tomorrow. Now tomorrow has come and there's even no hay any more. Politicians have been turned into glorified commedians. Art has become past modern modernism. Don't like to own anything but surely like to enjoy something more than mediocracy. Let the wild bunch ride again. Babysitters all grown up and grans themselves. I feel way too old at times. Like this morning. I used to howl at the moon but nowadays just go early to bed in order to wake up in the cold. I'm not sad, just mourning the friends that have gone and the love that still out there but out of reach again.

Or just appreciate what you’ve accomplished without dumping on what people are creating now.

@luckranger71 Give one example of something great recently. No way compares to what there once was.

@val70 i guess the internet is a lot faster than dialup but the phone book and operator were pretty good. 43 years ago we wouldnt be having this conversation unless we met at the barleycorn and were chatting over a glass of Genesee Cream Ale. Of course that might have left open the possibility of continuing the conversation at my place and you gettimg breakfast.

@Tastyfrzz Listen, I have had affairs with people from that age onwards and there's no change since on the internet. At a bar it's oh so more easy.

@val70 despite what people will argue, public health is so much better now than even as far back as the 1960s. These last few years reversed much of the trends, but, the number of deaths from infectious diseases now pales when compare to those at then mid-20th century. I was a pediatric resident in the late 60s. The number of children permanently damaged or who died from diseases we now prevent is staggering. The recent advances in vaccine development is simply amazing.

@samueltyler2 But what about the care for the mental diseases then? At a workplace one is either made unemployed or completely put aside
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@val70 I agree, that needs to be improved. But, when i was a student there were massive mental imaging institutions which simply boarded inmates, there were no treatments. We now have vastly improved that. There are many more people functioning reasonably well on medication, at worst on group settings, but, leading productive lives.

@samueltyler2 We're getting older and more unhealty. The system will fail
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@val70 As we age, our bodies do get "worn out," putting us a greater risk for things from becoming sicker with routine viral illnesses, to being more likely to develop cancers, etc. The average lifespan was rising annually until COVID. So modern medicine and public health has had the effect of prolonging life, and, for many of us lucky ones, keeping us in good health and productive into our old age.

@samueltyler2 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that, in the US anyway, life spans had already started to decline before Covid due to lifestyle, obesity, diabetes, processed foods etc.

There is now a much needed, about time, hope it's not too late, widespread concern for Mother Earth and for Future Generations.

Among the clear headed, there is now a sincere appreciation of and desire for Spiritual Awakening.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude Try Theresa of Avila or John of the Cross for that
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 Yes, I'm familiar with them both.
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 The world we see is always filtered through the lens of our own knowledge and personal experiences. So we can each see different worlds. And that's fine.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude Perhaps we do still need to lift ourselves by prayer and meditation too
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 Yes. Happiness is an inside job. Sometimes we need to set aside our pursuit of happiness. And just Be happy.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude Don't let yourself down that you're not worthy for some fun though
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 Exactly, our birthright is to be happy, joyous and free.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude 🤪 Why do I feel like there's always more to feed my body and mind though?
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 Because we are always on a journey. We feel sometimes like we never Arrive. And sometimes we feel like we are already there.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude Maddening
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 Like layers of the onion, there is always more to be revealed.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude I'm completely nude already 🥺
GrinNude · 61-69, C
@val70 It has been discovered recently that the Five Precepts really do work.
val70 · 51-55
@GrinNude What's misconduct though? 🤓
