I Am Polyamorous

be honest with your kids, my family is made up of a Daddy, A Nommy and a mommy/mama (( my youngest calls me mama my step kids call me mom or mommy )) and we have 3 kids and 2 cats and a gold fish and some day hope to have a baby on the way :) as for co workers and outsiders they have no reason they need to know. only good friends and other poly people know.

In the 90's, we explained my joining a couple as the second hubby as "a roommate who is going through a divorce and needs a room". That explained things to neighbors and extended family for a couple of years. We DID explain the real situation to close family members and close friends. Kids liked the idea (10,16,17,20).

I just told my mom last weekend. I explained that my wife and I were in an open relationship and what polyamorory was. I told her how this was not about divorce for us, that our love for one another was stronger than ever. We spoke for about an hour about this, maybe two. Just was open and honest about it. This said I am not at a point of telling my dad, but many of our friends know and all are very understanding.

It's not easy. I was involved for seven years. We lost jobs over it. We only told those closest to us. And exposed the kids gradually.

There's an idea... live in a duplex home.
