I Am a Lesbian

Homosexuality is normal.

Homosexuality is natural.

Homosexuality is not a political statement, it is not a "cool kids club". It does not make you special, it does not make you better or worse than anybody else.

I do not want to be "better" than heterosexual people. I don't want my life to be a political statement, I don't want my love to be a political statement.

I don't want my love to be fetishized, I am not porn.

All I want is to be able to go out in public with my girlfriend without getting yelled at from passing cars, without getting second glances or rude looks, even without people congratulating us or telling us we are "so brave".

I just want to hold her hand and not be afraid.

I don't want any drama on this post. If you can't handle science or are a homophobic fetishist then just go away because nobody wants you here. I have no control over my sexual orientation and I if I did I'd choose to be heterosexual so I wouldn't have to deal with retarded people.

That is true. A certain percentage of every human society is LGBT. There are evolutionary reasons for this.

@mathsman I've only read Edward O. Wilson's classic "Sociobiology," where he explains how evolutionary pressure works on groups as well as individuals. Briefly, to reproduce your genetic makeup, you need an average of two kids. However, if one of your siblings has four kids, that amounts to the same thing. This explains why homosexuality keeps appearing even though homosexuals don't reproduce nearly as much as straight people.

As for why this trait would exist, it's possible that people without kids might have served a function in primitive human societies, as priests who would have been able to devote their energies to religious duties without the distraction of a family, or maybe warriors who would have been more willing to take on dangerous assignments because they didn't have to worry about orphaning their kids. If this scheme resulted in their siblings having more kids than they would have otherwise, the trait would be selected for.

It's also possible that it's an epigenetic trait. Research shows that having an older brother makes a man more likely to be gay. This could have evolved to prevent brothers from competing for the same woman.

The fact that homosexuality occurs in every human society without exception suggests that it has an evolutionary purpose. I'm not saying the above reasons are necessarily correct; they're just theories that attempt to explain it.

@mathsman I don't know how two people of the same sex can conceive together. Usually they do what other infertile couples do, they adopt or use a surrogate.

Sociobiology explains a lot, at least to me. It makes sense that evolutionary pressures would act on a group, especially since humans are social animals. For example, religion is found in every human group, probably because it helps with group cohesion and encourages altruistic behavior. So groups that developed religion outcompeted groups that didn't.

@mathsman It's probably an epigenetic trait, so it wouldn't need to be passed on through the parents.

@Lila15 Science will not solve this societal problem. Science can't even win the argument of evolution because blind faith doesn't acknowledge fact based information.
