I Have Restless Legs Syndrome

Say Goodbye To Sleep... I have always had a hard time falling asleep, even before I got RLS. Now that I have RLS also hindering my sleep, sleep has become almost unattainable. I spend hours - sometimes even the whole night - tossing and turning, trying to find comfort. If RLS taught me one thing, it is that comfort is elusive. So I suffer on. I have been to the doctor multiple times, but nothing she prescribes helps. The only thing that truly helps is opioids, so I develop opioid dependency every now and then.

I would cut off my own legs if I knew it would help, but I do not know that. Firstly RLS is a neurological problem and secondly it is possible to experience ghost pains in phantom limbs. For those unaware of this phenomena, it is experiencing pain in limbs that you no longer have. Somehow I just know that if I were to cut off my legs to rid myself of this, I would still be subjected to ghost pains.

So I leave it, and take more opioids so I can actually sleep at night. Worst of all is, my partner has RLS too, so even if I have a good night - he might be tossing and turning himself all night and still prevent me from sleeping. I don't blame him for it though, just as he doesn't blame me... we both share this disorder so we understand. That to me is the only thing that makes it better, being with someone who understands what I'm going through.

It's truly horrible and I'm having the worst time sleeping. Comfort is elusive you are right. Sometimes I have to sleep upright on the couch and sleep on my legs practically to get them to calm down but doing that causes my knees grief. I have been prescribed Gabapentin 300 mgs (a drug for epilepsy) hopefully it helps. Good luck to you.
