I wanted to be mean back but I just can't. Still, being civil while they shit on me with a smile on their face messes with my self-respect.

@CrazyMusicLover dont be mean back you'll stoop to their level

@DeluxedEdition I just can't wrap my head around the fact someone can behave like such a piece of shit and seemingly not even be aware of it. I don't know how to deal with it.

This was a very hard lesson i had to learn because I always want to see or assume the good in people. But there are some people in this world that are EVIL. Some are so evil that you would have to be evil to some extent to understand how they operate.
You and I are not these kind of people therefore we WILL NEVER understand "why someone would behave like such a piece of shit and be unaware"
We should avoid these people like the plague and never stoop to their level. Because that just means their evil was so great it had the power to inflict on others.

The only issue I have with this statement is, someone could be thinking this exact thing about you. Someone could literally be thinking ‘why should I try and change this person, they’re evil’ about you. Are there evil people? Yes. Are most of the people others are trying to change evil? No. Some are legit evil. Most are just troubled because of their own past traumas. Can you change people? No. Sometimes you need to leave to take care of yourself but to denote them as evil is a long stretch.
Back in November if 2010 an old roommate called me heartless because I didn’t sit and listen to their problems. I did listen, I just didn’t agree with what they thought. A week later I finally was honest with them. When I was honest, they threatened to kill me. A week earlier you’d have thought I was the bad person. A week later you’d have known they were the bad person.
I’m not saying you need to stay around because they have past traumas. I’m saying that this person that threatened to kill me, even grabbed me by the neck and cocked their fist to punch me, was beaten by his father. The father that ultimately murdered his mother. It’s not an excuse for their behaviour, but it helps me understand that they have a lot of healing to do and I could forgive them despite not forgetting what they did.

Although I disagree that everybody who hurts you is evil (mostly.. there are exceptions lol), I do agree you cannot fix them. You can be supportive (which does not entail enabling or enduring mistreatment]), but that’s it. It’s not within your control/power to override their free will and ‘sculpt them’ into the potential you envision for them. No matter what words come out of their mouth, if they wanted to be the person you wish they were they’d already actively be working on it in a way that is clearly evident and progressing, not a miserable rollercoaster of ‘it’s complicated”.
I really cannot disagree with you on this, even though I still stay hopeful and trustful….🤗🤗🌹

There's a movie about exactly that called We Need to Talk About Kevin. Some people are just evil. Watching that movie is also a good form of birth control 😣
