I Remember The First Time I Was Barefoot

I wore shoes and socks everywhere when I was a kid. Even in the heat of summer. That all changed one day.
It was a very warm day in northern Florida and I was 13. I had been playing outside and came home for lunch. Afterward, I thought I'd just hang out in the house. I untied my sneakers and slipped them off. Then I looked down at my socked feet, which suddenly felt very warm and uncomfortable. I didn't like what I saw. So I quickly reached down and yanked off my socks and tossed 'em across the room. That little burst of air hit my feet and I wiggled my toes, which were now freed from their prison.
I was barefooted!
It energized me and I ran back outside and stayed there until after dark. My feet were dirty and I was proud of it!
I became a happy barefooted boy!!!

Growing up, us tough guys went barefoot from April to November to school as well. Only sissies wore shoes! Of course we were usually the ones sent to the principal for correction with the "board" of education!

@skunk11 Once I made the switch, I was the same way. I was SO proud to be barefooted!
