What was it like to do PE in bare feet?

Growing up in the US, going barefoot in PE was unheard of. We always wore sneakers (trainers) and socks. I remember a few gymnastic lessons in elementary school where we took our shoes off, but socks stayed on. After doing some research, I found out that it’s common in the UK to do PE in bare feet. Did you remove your footwear while getting changed, or were you told to? After reading some people’s experiences, I feel like I missed out on something.

In primary / middle school it was choice of bare feet or plimsolls, I opted for bare feet. In Secondary, all non contact indoor p e was done bare foot.

@RebeccaG interesting. This is something that is unheard of in the US. If I had a choice, then I think I would have opted for bare feet. There were several activities that we did that I think would have been better suited for bare feet. Probably more so at the elementary school level than middle or high school because elementary school PE had more creative activities than games. Middle school and high school PE was all games, which I didn’t care too much about.
