Simply not knowing their source is not a reason to feel afraid. Curiosity would be a better emotion.
Are you near a road that carries little traffic? (Occasional headlights).
A military range that sometimes performs night-time exercises?
A neighbour using a bright torch to search for something in his garden?
Lightning? It is possible for small-scale thunderstorms to develop but display very little activity.
An unusually bright meteor shower, or perhaps an artificial one as some spent artificial satellite falls to Earth?
....
I see occasional flashes that are from car headlamps on the next street to mine, the light coming through the gap between two terraces of houses.
I was puzzled for a while by very brief, faint glows on my bedroom wall, opposite the window, until I decided to watch. It was from bright headlights on cars rounding a bend on high ground about two miles away.
From the same window I can see strange, alternating, green and red spots of light on the same hill some distance from that road. I discovered eventually they are continually-cycling traffic-lights on a road serving only a secure compound: the amber phase is shorter than the others and not as bright. They are not visible in daylight, but their location is.
