What exactly makes a working man sexy?

Covered in grease or mud or whatever is apparently appealing to women. Help me understand this?

When my wife and I were dating in high school, my summer job was at a sawmill. My hands were always stained and callused. I thought she would hate it, but she said she liked having my rough hands on her body. She couldn't explain it.
