My favorite shorts ripped

I’ve had them about five years but the crotch tore. Is that the least structurally sound part of shorts, or am I playing too much pocket pool? Either way it’s sad.

I feel your pain one pair of elastic shorts I've had since school just became super loose. I don't know how to repair it but I'm loath to throw it away
