I think it's rare that people will wait for that and only accept that after a protracted search before committing themselves to another and a relationship. Everyone is in a big damn hurry to jump into an intimate relationship and start adulting only to be disappointed after a few years or even after a couple of kids. Deciding on who we marry is the most important decision of our lives. It should be taken far more seriously. That's what old fashioned "courting" was all about.
The prospects of marriage and belonging to someone were horrifying to me when he walked into my life. I could feel I had a lot of love to give, but I wasn't interested in doing that anytime soon. Then I met the right man and suddenly my thoughts turned from "is he the right one" to "will he still love me when I'm 50" . 😉
