What are some reasons why a guy would act this way?

So i have this 19 year old co worker that i actually get along pretty well with. Our encounters usually consist of being playfully mean and pulling pranks on each other so its always laughs or play fighting with us. (Yes, I can be immature for my age. It is what it is.)

But then i notice when i try to have a normal conversation with him or when im trying to actually say something nice, he gets all weird and shy i guess. He cant maintain eye contact, he cant stand still, and one time he even just walked off before he even finished his sentence. It was just...bizarre to me. I feel like ive said something wrong.

Any ideas what this can mean? Is it just an insecure young person thing?

He thinks you have something 'going on', he can handle it when it's all playful but he's too shy to ask or participate in a take it the next level convo. Yeah I know you weren't going to ask him out but moving away from comedy is moving closer to something serious.

@GeniUs Do u think this is just something he needs to grow out of on his own? Or is there something i can do to break him out of the shyness?

@KazTheRunaway sounds like he has a crush, if you don't want to encourage it leave the relationship as it is (playful) but if you'd like to take it further be the one who leads the conversations and contrary to what others may think he's of an age where he is mature enough to make his decisions about who he gets involved with.
