I have noticed that the majority of people in here who claim to be atheists are not really atheists.

They just are mad at God for whatever reasons.

They're mad at how they think God should be
@TheWildEcho I'm thinking about what you just said and I suppose there are lots of reasons why and that would be one of them for some. Maybe they are just mad because there is a God and they feel responsible and people don't like feeling responsible for their own actions if they're not interested in God. Just thinking out loud. Seem to want to put God in a box of their own making, as well but there could be a million reasons as well from upbringing and perhaps someone has lied to them about the gospel.

@newjaninev2 About her, I know. She is a top retired Attorney and a widow of County Judge.

But I don't know who you are.
@newjaninev2 Hypothetically, I said some say.....read again.

@LadyGrace some people think of God as a kind of magical entity who should give them everything they want, yet live their lives their own way instead of His
@TheWildEcho

Some do yes, as if he is a genie in the bottle, to call at their convenience and then they ignore him the rest of the time.

LOL!!! Of course she is. 🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣🤪
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@Sharon Don't have any doubt in your mind.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@LadyGrace Because I don't believe in God or gods I, by default, have to take responsibility for my actions. Taking responsibility for my actions doesn't make me angry at an entity I don't believe in.
@TheOrionbeltseeker who are you referring to here when you say don't have any doubt in your mind? There was no name.

@TheWildEcho
some people think of God as a kind of magical entity who should give them everything they want, yet live their lives their own way instead of His
I dare say there are people think that way. But they certainly wouldn't be atheists.
@Bushranger I wasn't talking about you though. I said this is the way some think.
@newjaninev2
and you are..?
Same as you and everybody else in this world, in need of a Savior, to forgive my sins, which He did.
@Bushranger

I don't think you know their minds and who they are and what they're thinking.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@LadyGrace My comment may well apply to many atheists. Not having a God or gods to rely upon makes atheists responsible for their actions.

We can't put something in a box if we don't believe in it.

Nor do you, yet you don't mind expressing your opinions of what people believe or think.

Typical christian arrogance. :(
@Bushranger Sorry but that don't work. I said "some", just like you said "some".
@Bushranger
We can't put something in a box if we don't believe in it.
You took that out of context of course. I said some react that way.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@LadyGrace And both of us are making assumptions based on limited knowledge. But I'm willing to accept responsibility for that.
@Bushranger

Speak for yourself.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@LadyGrace
You took that out of context of course. I said some react that way
If someone doesn't believe in your version of God, they are not going to attempt to compartmentalise that God. The one thing that all atheists share is a lack of belief in God or gods, so the context was correct. Since the definition I gave is the correct one, it's appropriate to make the statement on behalf of all atheists.

I always do.
@Bushranger Good. Then leave me out of it, because you'd be wrong, every time.
They're mad at how they think God should be
I realize that when one is personally invested the way you are it can be easy to fall into the trap of assigning a dishonest motivation but do allow me to correct you from the perspective of one who does not take this subject personally.

I'm sure there are, as OP identified, some people who call themselves atheist because they're mad at god. I don't think there are many and damn sure not the majority but i rarely make statements about what 100% of anyone believes lol.

I think you're confusing criticism of the character of god with a belief in and anger at god.
To you he's a real person and so it looks to you like anyone criticizing him is mad at a person they know to be real.
In fact it is more akin to criticizing the actions of Scar in the Lion King, or King Joffrey in the Game of Thrones or the Emperor in Star Wars. You can recognize the flaws in the character and even dislike the character without actually believing that character is real.
So the atheist can indeed say "This god character seems a bit shit. I think an almighty being could probably have done better!" without believing that this character actually exists.

You might as well argue that someone actually does believe in Santa Claus but that they are just mad at him for not being on the good list.

Hope that clears some things up.
