I'm convinced and now totally prepared to believe in magic, and an invisible all-knowing man who lives in the sky who grants wishes if I do exactly as he tells me to! 🙄
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@NewBecky It was just my suggestion of a possibility, I like to keep an open mind to such things.
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@Quizzical Turek, however, DOES have a theory based on observation! :) I gotta run... So nice debating the ignorance called atheism. See you
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@NewBecky Yeah, it was enjoyable, we should debate the fantasy of religion again sometime.
Atheists don't NEED to justify morality. But if you need a why then it is evolutionarily advantageous to a social species not to kill each other off.

This doesn't take into account a cyclic universe only a linier one. To extend the question if the universe can be the uncaused first cause like God then why can it not also be timeless like God?

I like how he says you don't have to worship God but then goes onto equating that with a rejection of God. That is a bait and switch. He talks about free will but then suggest that to be accepted by God you must forego it. He is equating the universe with God but just calling it by a different name but is adding theological fluff assuming that God(universe) even has a personality or wants and desires at all. He is not giving a reason for these things from a naturalistic point of view.

His analogy is flawed because he is not giving Naturalistic reasons for why God(universe) has a personality. Let alone wanting or not wanting to be loved. If he cant establish that first of all, going into God's motives is unneeded. Also God as parent is often used as an analogy. If you love your children then unlike he is saying you DO NOT leave them alone. So his stalker analogy has a flaw as well when it is switched to the parental analogy. A parent protects their children no matter what. He is also failing to mention any third option that God might have. Why does it always have to be a choice between God or hell? A loving God would always protect it's children even if it had to do so from a distance. That way the child is protected, free will is preserved and everyone gets what they want.

I can agree that hell is a separation from God in the classical sense if you believe God is love. But what if God is the bad guy? What if Heaven is really hell? No one has ever addressed that that I have heard of. He talks about hell as a sort of prison. But why would God need a prison? How could an all good God have gone so wrong in his creation? Unless he either meant it to be that way (evil) or couldn't change it (non omnipotent)

Good video though.

@canusernamebemyusername His book "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist" will answer your reply... I appreciate your watching the video!

I've seen videos like this of the opposite. I've also seen videos like this answered by other religions. Everybody thinks they are right. Nobody will know for sure.
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@ChiyoSKL Because atheists cannot give anything of value in response to surge.
ChiyoSKL · 31-35, F
@NewBecky who said I'm atheist?
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@ChiyoSKL My mistake, so sorry my Hindu friend.
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
It's utter bs. Prove it and I'll believe it. No more real than santa.
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@Cheesecake You did not listen to it and have nothing of value to say regarding surge. That is the nature of atheism. It is slippery and it is ignorant.
TexChik · F
Maybe so ,you shouldn’t call them stupid because it is their Free choice . 🤷🏻‍♀️. They have their entire life to open their hearts to God . If not...Hell has gotta burn on something . 😉

I think people who attack others physically, mentally, and emotionally in the name of their religion is stupid. Let people believe what they want to believe, it's their life and if they aren't bugging you then why does it matter?
DDonde · 31-35, M
-Atheists can't justify morality
-Uncaused first cause problem
I'm only skimming the video but what's the third objection?
Something regarding free will?

The first two are relatively easy to answer. If you reject the bible as a source of reliable information, it doesn't matter if you can use it justify morality or not. Both the atheist and the theist have the same authority with regards to moral issues.

The uncaused first cause thing is a classic argument in favor of the existence of a God, but one counterargument is that even if one might exist on those grounds, there's absolutely nothing connecting it to the actual religion that you practice. As an atheist my main problems are with religion and faith in general, not the question of the possibility of the existence of any God.
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@DDonde This is a foundation video. It sets the foundation first... is there a God. What you are bringing up is a separate issue... Is the Bible reliable. The speaker did not pick the topics. He was answering the questions. But, if you accept the idea that there is a cause and the cause is God... then who He is and What is His nature is another topic and I believe Ravi Zaccharias is a good speaker on that issue.

But regarding authority, atheism and theism do not share the same authority regarding moral issues. Our authority is God's word which is rejected by the atheist.

TO those who believe in God, atheism is stupid. I believe in God,so I won't accept atheism.
I think the name-calling should be left to atheists
NewBecky · 51-55, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I agree... but I am not attacking anyone. I have an atheist in my life that I love dearly. He is rather intelligent in some matters. It is not personal. It is Atheism itself that is silly and absurd. Perhaps "stupid" leads to people thinking that I am calling THEM stupid, but no...

To borrow from a quote from a former American President... The trouble with our Atheistic friends is not that they are ignorant,... It is that they know so much that isn't so. lol

The nature of Atheism itself is slippery and ignorant yet it attempts to appear scientific... but even in this discussion it is clear that atheism creates lists of wild possibilities while Turek is using the scientific method and scientific theory... Big difference!
@NewBecky True, you said "atheism" and not "atheists". But many would find the difference pretty subtle and maybe disingenuous. I think if it was "I disagree with atheism" then only the those w/the fragilest of egos would object (and there would be plenty of those)

@SW-User Yes, quite right... and they did not wish to believe that the man who was performing many miracles was the Messiah because He was telling them that keeping the law was not enough to give entry to heaven. So, the historical record says that He did many miracles, but only his disciples and His followers claimed that the source of his power was his Deity. You can call it superstition or you can ask yourself, what was the source of Jesus' power? The Jews, in their bias, certainly would have recorded that He had no power if they could have gotten away with it... but there were too many witnesses. Undeniable power... and that power not only raised stinky people but it also raised Himself from the dead.
