Is atheism a religion? If yes, make your case

I'm not sure that atheism counts even by that definition because there is no [i]set[/i] of beliefs to be an atheist, just one: Gods doesn't real.

Sure. But belief doesn't equal religion, right? I believe that most people are decent and mostly try to do the right thing. I believe that humans are contributing to climate change. I believe the sun will rise tomorrow. These are beliefs but not religion.

I think under any meaningful definition, atheism fails to meet the criteria.

Even in a religion without a deity there exists a system of belief and ritual practices. Atheism doesn't have that.

Well my understanding is that atheism is a description of a single position: lack of belief or disbelief in a god or gods.

Can you think of a way in which that could constitute ritual practice or a system of belief?
