I think you misunderstood his point:
He is saying that contrary to a popular theist talking point, he does NOT require faith in god in order to keep himself from doing evil.
Additionally, faith in god is no safeguard against doing evil and in some cases allows for greater evil to be perpetrated from a position of righteousness or assurance of forgiveness.
