I Am An Atheist

So apparently the world is said to end tomorrow by a group of Christian zealots.

According to them, either God or Noah (two of their imaginary friends) are said that they will kill off the Earth with fire instead of flooding it with water (which never happened).

Seriously, how many times is this going to be brought up? It's getting old.

First there's a 1994 prediction, then the 2000 prediction, then the 2011 prediction, then the 2012 prediction (though, I'll be fair and say that was Mayan, and I'm not sure if that correlates with Christianity) and now this crap in 2015 because of the lunar eclipse that just happened (which by the way, was a beautiful sight).

Seriously, when is this ever going to stop? It's beyond ridiculous at this point.

The worlds ending again?

Sigh. I'm sick of it to.

I can't help but think that holding such views must be really depressing. How does one go about looking forward to the future if they have convinced themselves there isn't one?

That's why I support universal healthcare, and removing the stigma regarding mental illness. I am completely willing to pay taxes for the privilege of not having to deal with people.

The fundies are all in a death cult Betty. They love the US, Russia et al interfering in the Middle East because they think it'll bring about The Rapture & battle at Armageddon. Nutters.

Is Universal Healthcare like our (& France & Germany etc) National Health Service? I don't get why the right in the US is so against it. It's mad that America has the best & worst healthcare in the western world.

They are! I think they are the same people who hoard guns and food and look forward to a zombie apocalypse. I in part blame the media for glamorizing post apocalyptic dystopian fictions.

Universal healthcare, or single payer, would be just like the NHS. We already have Medicare and Medicaid which is national healthcare for seniors ( and some non seniors that may qualify but that's complicated).
All it would take would be adding more funds, meaning the tax that gets taken out of my paycheck for Medicare would increase, and expanding the coverage to everyone.
However that increase would be offset in that anyone who pays for insurance would not have their private insurance payment anymore. It would be much cheaper individually and no one would be uninsured.
But I'm surrounded by morons........... I mean Americans.

We have a separate tax called National Insurance which covers healthcare, state pension and various benefits like Child Support, incapacity benefit & unemployment benefit. I think it's about 8% across the board on income.
SwampyStables
Most of our tax is taken at source from your salary.

I like shooting zombies on my son's X-Box. Maybe I'm part of the problem!

Our taxes are taken out the same way.
But there are like 10? Taxes taken out of my paycheck. Social Security is retirement for when you turn 67, because they raise the age.
Medicare is health insurance for seniors.
There is disability. State and city taxes. Federal tax.
The largest amount is the federal tax, most of which probably ends up in the black hole of accounting that is the pentagon.
CyborgBetty
Nah as long as you don't look forward to real zombies your fine.
