We got a new toy.

This contraption is for Astrophotography and it enables us to capture stunning images of the sun…

The moon…

And celestial bodies that our eyes are unable to see without a little help from modern tech, like the M100 spiral galaxy and the M3 star cluster.

Have yet to look into actual editing software to make the last two really pop, but even these small captures make my little dorky heart soar.

Wow. Very interesting. Must have a special sun filter. And it tracks. I bought a tracking unit for my camera and telescope. I need to set it up. I need to look at the sun again. More activity than during the eclipse.

@Livingwell Nice shot! Saw some images taken during the eclipse with this unit and man, that would’ve been something to see. That sun filter is definitely a must though.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart can you please provide the link to it?

Sweet! What a cool and fun toy. 🤩
JustNik · 51-55, F
Does it say in the manual how you’re supposed to leave it alone and get the rest of life done? 🤩😂
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@JustNik 😂. The six hour battery life ensures just that. But they also feature extra batteries so having a job and adult responsibilities was fun while it lasted 😁
JustNik · 51-55, F
@PerfectionOfTheHeart it’s like they tried, but not too hard. 🤣 best of luck!
That’s wonderful … makes the sky even more interesting .. 🤗🌸
Love that and the moon looks beautiful
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
That's fabulous! May I be terribly rude and ask how much it costs?
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@AntisocialTroll Not rude at all. Was a little over $500. We have three birthdays in the household within a few weeks of each other, so that took the sting out of it a little. We’re all really into it.
Goodluckwiththat · 61-69, M
Wow!! How cool is that??
fun4us2b · M
That is so cool!

I have been thinking what a great present this would make...

Does it come with everything needed? Any suggestions where to buy? I see it on Amazon of course....

💫
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@fun4us2b Comes with everything you need. We watched a few videos on how to set it up so we wouldn’t be too out of our depth, but was fairly easy to get from the unboxing to seeing the images above. We used the highpointscientific site and picked up a three year, zero deductible warranty that covers anything happening to it. It comes with a limited two year warranty by default, but wanted more coverage just in case.

Awesome!

Can you hook it up to a computer and "dial in" any star you want, and track it?
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
@JoyfulSilence You actually do that through an app. It’s all controlled through the app and while you can send yourself the simple images taken, you hook it up to a computer to fully access the videos and stacks of time lapse images that it captures for the constellations.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart

So neat. Your own personal observatory!
Degbeme · 70-79, M
That is freaking awesome. You`ll have a blast with this.
Musicman · 61-69, M
That is so cool! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
