Zodiac signs

Honestly, I was never one to believe in zodiac signs. Like the way it shapes your personality, love life, feelings, etc. Don't get me wrong though! I think it's cool that many people believe in it, and the only thing I can say is keep believing in what you believe. But personally, I just never really found a reason to. However, recently I've come to learn that my crush is a scorpio 💀 Me being a pisces, you can tell how compatible we are. So, as of now, I'm trusting the fact that since our signs are compatible we are compatible as well LMFAO. Yea, I think I'm pretty down bad but that's fine because they're worth it.

My adage is simple: If it’s not science, it’s superstition. So I’m going to be the wet blanket.

Do you go with blind belief? What is astrology supposed to do better than alternatives? Was astrology or magical thinking any part of your education? How about science literacy and critical thinking skills? You have the internet at your fingertips. Can you link a site that shows how it works? Without the religious like belief?

Just because it has suffix -olgy doesn’t make legitimate.

If you don’t ask about the physics, how the morality? Personally, I find astrology a first cousin to racism. Nobody picks their birthday anymore than they choose race or gender. It’s saying we’re programmed like robots and stuck with it. When someone asks for my sign, it’s insulting. Usually I’ll say any other and they still nod knowingly while forming stereotypes in their heads.

Whole chart or not, astrology is lies and fraud.

@BlueSkyKing Well, yes you can say that. I won’t lie, that is the exact kind of thing I say to my friends when they bring up astrology. I agree that zodiac signs create stereotypes, especially with those that truly believe in it. An example I remember are how virgo men (I believe) are treated. According to their sign, they are toxic (please correct me if I’m wrong).

But personally, a belief is a belief. Many beliefs are based off how one views the world. So even though zodiac signs and it’s correlation to our personality isn’t scientifically proven, I don’t necessarily find it abhorrent. I actually find it fascinating how people created personalities based on how the stars were aligned. I don’t fully believe in zodiac signs, but I do respect those that do.

So yes, it may not accurately describe you as a person, but I think that it can be a fun way to know others or have fun with the simple coincidences you have in common with your sign.
@CongoMyStuffedCorgi I would gladly correct you about Virgo men. But the data doesn’t exist. Why would any organization invest time and money for research? Especially when enough gullible people accept weird beliefs without question. Astrology is great for excuses and avoiding personal responsibility.

I’m not very fascinated at con artists. Reality is something to embrace.

@BlueSkyKing post your chart ?
@revenant What would be the purpose? Are your 'readings' remotely close to the quality of a pro? I can post a chart with some false information. Like a wrong year or different location. My response can be equally false. Professional astrologers never boast about their accuracy, they mention customer satisfaction. That’s anecdotal as well.

@BlueSkyKing Hmm “reality is something to embrace” I find that interesting. Believe it or not, there are many things science has yet to prove and disprove. Reality is extremely vague but also makes so much sense at the same time.

Remember this, things that we now prove as “facts” from science were once seen as things that are as laughable as astrology signs. Take the flat Earth argument from hundreds or even thousands of years ago. Many people believed the Earth was flat because that’s how they made sense of their environment. People who believed the Earth was round were made fun off up until it was proven.

Reality is many things, and there are many things in our reality we are yet to consider “real.”
@CongoMyStuffedCorgi Reality is vague? Astrology isn’t?

Humans are pattern seeking creatures that can think in abstract. No other animal can do this. So all other creatures have no choice but to live in reality. We can easily alter our reality by imagination and chemically.

Science makes models based on the available evidence. An important attribute of science is self correcting. Whenever better evidence is produce, the old is discarded. If you were an ant walking on a beach ball, you’d think it’s flat too.

An example. Like kids today, I had a thing for dinosaurs. But most of the books, dating back over fifty years ago, are no longer valid. New evidence made a revelation. Dinosaurs have feathers and birds are living dinosaurs.

Not everyone thought the earth as flat. However it took longer for the earth not to be the center of the universe.

@BlueSkyKing If you do not think patterns exist, fair enough. Greatest scientific discoveries were based on hunches.
@revenant They were not usually eureka moments. More often "That’s funny" moments.
