I think we should stop waiting for India to provide a counter balance to China in Asia. They just are not a people up to the mark.

They're so horribly inefficient and fractious. If the Phillipines is serious about it's attempts to modernise I can only hope in the a trifecta with Indonesia-Vietnam-Philippines to provide an South East Asian bulwark. But that's just military. This region lacks an economic behemoth that can grow to a level that puts a check on Chinese ambition in the region.
