The danger with all household name brands leaving Russia is that the gap will just be filled by China who also gains the know how
Under normal circumstances, a brand can exit a market to comply with sanctions and copyright protections will ensure the intended purpose is delivered, eg making the deprivation felt to the wider public. But when Russia has already shown it is willing to allow copycat McDonalds to be run across the country, all we've done is hand over the keys to that business to Russia. Nike just left Russia, but the actual shoes are literally made in China and a huge counterfeit market already exists, do we really expect Russia to be deprived of "Nike-like" shoes or is China just going to now own that marketspace. I get the intention but this seems more like shooting yourself in the foot. All these trade prohibitions is turning Russia into Al Capone, as trade prohibitions always do.
