Do kids still dig to China?

I honestly have no idea. I remember when I was a kid, they had a cartoon based on the Addams Family TV series from the '60s, and Gomez asked Pugsley what he was doing with the shovel in the backyard. He naturally responded that he was digging to China, and Gomez told him he couldn't do that. Gomez walked off screen, and Pugsley told his new Chinese friend he couldn't play with him anymore.
