I used to work for a lady, who was born in 1929.

One day I noticed that she was putting liquid makeup foundation on her gold jewelry. I, wondering asked her, why are you doing that? She responded that she didn't want her jewelry to look like gold. That perplexed me, and I still wonder to this day, why would anyone not want their gold to look like gold? Perhaps, she thought that she might get robbed, but if that were the case, then don't wear jewelry. I don't know, it just seemed strange to me.

1929?

stock market crash leading to the Great Depression....and WWII, and the Cold War, probably something she learn as a child.

my grandmother was born in '30 and to the day she died she was tight with her money and stock-piled 6 months of food in her basement

@RoxClymer You may be right, and I didn't think about all that she lived through. Quirky lady, nonetheless.

😀 smart cookie. I bet she kept her cash in her bra!!

@eMortal No she kept her cash at the bank, and kept her checkbook in her bra.

Maybe she has seen robberies in her life that made her fearful of the loss, and she is still carrying that fear and also wanted to use the jewelry she has.

@ABCDEF7 Perhaps, who knows what she may have gone through to make her act in that manner. It just didn't make sense in my head, but she knew what she was doing, and why.
That is odd.
she wanted it to look fake maybe. Which, fine. But why have real gold to start with?

@nonsensiclesnail No doubt, eccentric lady, with funny habits.
