Who has been the greatest actor ever?

I'll start off this one with my own personal favourite Jean Gabin. At the age of nineteen he entered show business and he never looked back. His acting career spans the major part of the last century, having played in theater, music halls and movies. As an young man he sang for his bread, acted in movies and the theater various different and highly distinctive roles, and eventually sank almost his whole money into a horse farm

@Funlov I'm sorry but I don't agree with you politically, but you have the best pick after the one day nevertheless :-)

@val70 all good that’s the think about being a individual every person can think what they like 😊

I'm going to go ahead and show what a novice I am. Tom Hanks is my pick. Sir Lawrence Olivet was the one they used to say when I was young. I guess it's probably some play actor that I've never heard of. I've hear Henry Winkler is a great actor....

@originnone Tom is a good pick :-)
It's hard to narrow it down to one. Conrad Veidt, Robert Ryan and Graham Greene quickly come to mind. I also really admire actors like Ernest Borgnine and Edward G. Robinson who could be so likeable in one role then do a complete turnaround and be the meanest SOB alive in the next, and be completely believable in either role.

@originnone Yes, that was in The Sixteen Millimeter Shrine (1959). Lots of other good actors in there also. I wonder if they'd get those in a similar tv show these days

@val70 I Married a Witch opposite Veronica Lake. I love that one too.

Wasn't he in It's a Wonderful Life?

@val70 I thought he was the cop, not Jimmy's role.
val70 · 51-55
@SW-User Oh no, that was Ward Bond. He played Bert the cop. Plenty of westerns he was in too
