The plague, known as HeliumX, emerged upon the citizens of Carnivalia one summer's night when an alchemical experiment went wrong within its laboratories. Nobody knew how the plague first happened or what the experiment was, all they know is that it started with balloons. Balloons were infecting the Carnivalian citizens slowly, it started as a mere rash and with each playful pop, HeliumX was unleashed upon the unwitting masses, spreading like a malevolent specter through the air. Those infected found themselves succumbing to a grotesque metamorphosis, their bodies contorting into grotesque caricatures of their former selves, festering balloons protruding from their flesh like malignant tumors.

The once-cheerful Carnivalians wandered the deserted streets, their laughter replaced by guttural moans of agony. The very air itself became a vector of contagion, tainted by the ominous whispers of twisted science and the scent of decay. Eventually, the area was quarantined and nobody has been allowed in. Since then, it has been dubbed Jester's Hallow. Though neighboring communities say if you listen closely, you can hear faint whispers inviting you in that carry sometimes through the air, like it wants to infect you.
