What is your favourite genre of paintings?

As a kid I loved to draw and wouldn't share my beloved pencils and crayons with anyone. I had a pink plastic pencil case with a zip and a little pocket on the front that I kept my eraser in. When I grew older I began to love painting more and used watercolour as a medium.
I like paintings with detail, but not abstract. Wildlife paintings, not portraits so much, and landscapes.
Robert Bateman is an incredible wildlife artist, his paintings are like photographs and to me, that is real talent. Landscapes, Constable and Turner, who apparently hated each other.
Robert Bateman compared to my effort. The master first, of course..

Sorry, lighting's not great.

I'm impressed.... That's a watercolour?

@Convivial Yes, I'd love to try oils as they are easier to correct mistakes.

@SW-User I've always loved the softness of watercolour, it takes talent.... I'm thinking of Watership Downs.... Totally gorgeous film

@Convivial I’m too messy to do oils. My wife has banned me from cooking too.

Water colours suit me. Wet on wet. The colours diffuse and merge.
