I have a theory on modern art. A large number of artists must compete for the highly subjective favour of a small number of patrons, gallery owners, buyers and journalists. So, their offerings must become progressively more radical to stand out from the crowd, which attempts to follow suit. Many buyers care more for the speculative appreciation of value than the inherent worth of the image. A perfect example of The Emperor's New Clothes.
