THE FAMILY BUSINESS: THREE GENERATIONS, ONE HUSTLE
DISCLAIMER: This story is real. It was recorded directly from a participant within this specific "scheme" in Pattaya. While the names have been omitted, the family structure and business model described are an active reality in the city’s nightlife.
In the city of neon lights, "fighting for life" often becomes a team sport. We recently heard a first-hand account of a family unit that has turned the generation gap into a diversified business portfolio.
1. The Three-Tier Strategy
The family operates across three strategic locations in Pattaya, ensuring they capture every demographic of the market:
The Granddaughter (18): Positioned at the beachfront. She represents the "young and fresh" appeal, catching the foot traffic along the sand.
The Mother (30s): Stationed near the major shopping malls. She targets the middle-ground—customers looking for experience and a slightly more "mature" aesthetic.
The Grandmother (50s): Based in a bar on the Jomtien side. Despite being in her 50s, she keeps herself in top physical shape , competing directly with younger women in the bar scene.
2. The "Upsell" and the Pivot
The real "magic" happens at the grandmother’s bar. She is the veteran. She knows how to read a customer.
If a "warm-blooded" foreigner comes in but isn't interested in a woman of her age, she doesn't take it personally. Instead, she leans in and whispers:
"Are you looking for someone younger? I can call a girl for you."
The girl she calls isn't a random contact. It’s her own granddaughter. And if the granddaughter is already busy with another client? She calls her daughter—the girl’s mother.
3. "Helping Each Other Out"
To a Western observer, this looks like a complete breakdown of family values. But in their world, this is "Su-su gan pai"—helping each other survive.
Every transaction is shared.
The grandmother takes her percentage for the "referral."
The money goes into one pot to support the household.
In their eyes, they aren't "selling" each other; they are a small, independent agency where trust is guaranteed because the bloodline is the contract.
Pattaya doesn't just change people; it redefines the very meaning of "family support." When the lights are bright and the rent is due, the traditional roles of mother and grandmother often take a backseat to the roles of "Agent" and "Business Partner."
