Ever heard of something called 'hob2hood'?
It's nothing kinky though you might think so when you first hear about it.
Apparently it's a way for a cooktop (hob) to wirelessly communicate with a rangehood (hood) so that the cooktop controls the rangehood remotely.
I did some researching and it's *not* wi-fi based with any connection required to any kind of IoT or 'smart home' network. Instead it uses an infrared link sort of like how your TV remote control works.
Now I'm still not convinced that having *any* kind of automatic device or appliance control in the home is a good idea, but now I've found out that hob2hood is NOT dependent on unsafe and potentially hackable wi-fi I'm more interested.
