Do you let your electronic devices - car, phone, computer, tv, tablet, etc - do auto-updates or do you manually vet updates?
I don't have any 'connected cars' so no worries there. Both my vehicles are 1992's so long pre-date and 'ecosystem' connectivity. If I did have a new(ish) vehicle, I would work out how to block automatic updating of system firmware components by either fully disabling the wireless date radio hardware, or remove the sim (if removable). Connected cars are so dangerous around firmware updates as they can happen at any time (even when driving I would presume) and the results could be unpredictable.
My PC runs win 10 so support stopped in Oct last yr. I will not update to Windows 11 so am thinking whether I move to another OS, or stick with Win 10 (I made a USB bootable copy). Computer doesn't have a camera or microphone, so can't be used as a malicious spying device.
With my Android phone/tablet I vet all updates and allow some but not others. For example youtube recently tried to force an Android app update - I decided to disable youtube on my android devices and only enable it manually if I feel I need to use it. My bank's app gets mandatory updates too and I still vet those. So do apps like Whatsapp (and being owned by the Zucker I ensure the changes outweigh the choice to just delete it).
Basically I *never* permit automatic app/system updates for anything and decide if I want to download them or not (where it's not mandatory to keep using a certain app). If I find apps require mandatory updates I decide if the app is really needed or not and go from there.
With my TV, I have wi-fi disabled as I don't want it used as a spying device maliciously. I don't have any smart speakers or other smart home devices (that are always listening and/or watching), and I don't have internet-connected (or connectable) AC, fridge/freezer, clothes washer, security devices, etc.
