Why is he the top card

At time's I watch those pokemon card videos on YouTube. Kind of curious why is Charizard one of the most expensive cards out there. I get he was one of the original 3 on the tv show. But he wasn't really the main pokemon on the show. I would imagine it would be Pikachu.
