@zerofuks2give You are correct the people in South America raise them for food as they are just like rabbits.

I had a nice one who gave audible reactions to attention, sort of like a purr. On the downside the cage bedding has to be changed often and stinks up the house. They are social so if you get one you should get two and a very big cage.

You have to clean them out regularly.
If their sawdust/shavings get too wet it does tend to stink.
But yes as pets they're pretty entertaining.

They are fun but die easy as they are prone to viruses like colds and they pee a lot making cleaning their cages out often or you get a strong ammonia smell from it. I have had several and they are prolific at making babies.
