I was really hoping to save him

I found him in a parking lot. He was flapping around a little but wasn't moving much and I soon realized his legs were mangled in some way.

I took him home, thinking I'll try to nurse him back to health. But as soon as I took a closer look I found one leg was severed and hanging by a thread. This was beyond my amatuer skills.

So I took him here. It's a bird hospital and rehab, about 40 minutes from home.

I was talking to him on the ride up. Telling him if he can hang on and get better he'll love it up there. Lots of open space, fields and woodlands.
But they told me both legs, in fact, had been severed and euthanasia was the only option.

I don't know how this happened to him. There were no other wounds on him, just the legs. It was a home center parking lot and they had forklifts out there moving pallets of soil around so maybe that played a role, I don't know.

I hope the bird afterlife has a special place for him, flying high out there.
