Were dinosaurs real or are they fabricated?

I think they were real. I don't think they were as old as a lot of experts claim though.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc Well, you admit not knowing, but you have a point in that they did not totally vanish as versions of some staggered on beyond the Cretaceous / Tertiary mass-extinction to become modern reptiles and oddly, birds.

In any case, as an entirety they spanned an enormous time during which whole genuses (genii?) as well as individual species of dinosaurs and their marine contemporaries came and went.

So you can't really say you think that about their age without specifying which animals or which geological time division you mean.

@ArishMell Yes I can. Carbon 14 testing is the gold standard scientists use to test and determine the age of those dinosaur bones and fossils they find. My problem with that is Carbon 14 dating tests have been proven very extremely on many occasions. At best this method of Carbon dating is around 50% accurate. Nothing that is only 50% accurate is a reliable indicator. I'm not going to give you the examples, you can Google it. I don't think we really know how old those creatures are.
As you may have surmised, I fully admit there are many things that I don't know.

Carbon 14 dating is not what is used to determine the age of dinosaurs.
Offthetop · 51-55, M
@Nitedoc You might get whiplash trying to follow scientific evidence and religious dogma at the same time.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Offthetop I appreciate your concern. I'm talking about the failures of the carbon dating tests. I'm not pitting science against religion. Carbon 14, Radioisotope testing,Potassium-argon are the tests commonly used to date bones and fossils believed to be from dinosaurs. None of them is accurate enough to be a reliable indicator of of the samples age. Do you think around 50% accuracy in these tests is good enough? I don't!

@JimboSaturn Read my reply to user Offthetop.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Nitedoc Did you read my article? They dont use Carbon 14 dating for dinosaur dating
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn No, didn't need to read it. I know what tests are used. I listed them in my reply to Offthetop. But just out of curiosity, what dating method do think they use now?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Nitedoc Read the link it will tell you. They use Uranium dating which is accurate a couple millions years in 10 00 billion years. They also use other non radio dating as outlined in the article. I believe you have read misinformation. What is your source?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn Yes Uranium-thorium and Uranium-lead dating is the new "wonder method" according to some. There's a couple of others too. It does work to a degree on calcium carbonate samples but it's primary use is in dating rocks with minerals, particularly Zircon infused. I think in time these methods will be proven to be as inaccurate of the previous methods.
My source? My mind.
You can believe whatever you want. I'm not going to try to change your mind and I'm certainly not going to argue about it.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Nitedoc Yes they use it to date the rocks in which the bones are found. Your source is your mind? So you.did the science yourself to test the accuracy of radiometric dating?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
No, not exactly, but I did read about it not long ago in a well known publication, The National Inquirer.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc Carbon dating can only work back so far, which is why it is not accurate for Cretaceous and Jurassic deposits. Other isotopes are used for those much longer times.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@ArishMell I know. I listed most of the other tests in a previous reply. How long are you going to keep kicking a dead horse?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc I'm not. Dead reptile perhaps?
