Honestly, what are they thinking?
There is no shortage of dumb. It’s the most durable and self-duplicating commodity in the world.
There is also no rock bottom to dumb.
Just reading about Liam, an English boxer traveling with his younger cousin Callum in Romania. They stayed at a bed-and-breakfast, and were hoping to see some brown bears.
Liam stopped at a bakery shop and bought a bag of pastries, and they returned to the rooming house for their luggage before driving on to a place where a large male brown bear had been sitting by the roadside begging for food. Tourists supplied the food.
It’s called food conditioning. It’s similar to your pet dog who won’t stop pestering you if its 6:00 feeding is late.
The landlady had looked at Liam’s bag of pastries and said, Please don’t do what you’re thinking about doing when he asked if it was true bears would take food from your hand. “Yes. Sometimes they take the hand, too.”
These days she tells her guests about Liam.
Liam and Callum found the begging brown bear at its usual spot. Liam handed his phone to his cousin, told him to keep recording and got out of the car. He walked back to the bear and offered it a croissant. It did take it from his hand and the next one too. Liam called back to Callum, with a big grin, “Going to make him work for the next one!”
He held out a third pastry and when the bear reached for it, he jerked it back and stood up, holding it out of the bear’s reach. The bear stood up on its hind legs, now towering over Liam. It swatted him on the shoulder almost casually and the boxer fell back over a guard rail and rolled down a steep slope toward a tree line. The bear followed, wanting more pastries, and mauled Liam with deep lacerations from its claws and a skull crushing bite to his head.
Even though his cousin and several other travelers ran down to help Liam and even though an ambulance responded in a few minutes, Liam died on the way to the hospital.
The police and Liam’s family requested the several recordings of the tragedy not be released and it wasn’t, how could ANY video of that have been worth it?
